  • .NET Fundamentals -Interfaces (Jim Bears)

  • Asynchronous Programming with NET 4.0's Task Object (Jeff Smith) - This is an overview of the Task object provided as part of the new Task Parallel Library (TPL) in .NET 4.0. Task objects are one of the preferred ways to execute asynchronous code in .NET. We look at the how to's for creating and using Tasks. Specifically we'll look at, Task creations, cancellations, waiting, continuations, factories and schedulers.

    Jeff Smith is currently a staff software engineer working for Intuit in San Diego. He is also the founder and owner of Software Juice, a .NET training and consulting software company. He has been a working software developer since the earlier 1980's when he was coding using AT&T's cfront pre-processor for C++ compilers prior to the existence of native C++ compilers. His background includes working in distributed computing, visual simulation and super computing. Specific applications have included web applications, web services and desktop applications implemented on various Microsoft client and server platforms, Unix variants and Linux in a variety of imperative programming languages including, C, C++, C# and Java.

    Jeff teaches intermediate C# classes for UCSD extension classes covering a wide swath of the core .NET libraries and the latest C# language features with a focus on asynchronous programming. He is currently developing a new UCSD class featuring .NET's new functional programming language, F#.
